2004: A difficult vintage to describe
The white wines are very good, and similar to 2001, with lemon and citrus aromas as well as very attractive overripe notes. To drink now or hold (for people who enjoy aged white wines).
The reds are still closed at present, and not easy to evaluate.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir on a 1.19 hectare plot
Located in the heart of Les Santenots du Milieu, with brown soil rich in magnesium on a layer of hard, rounded limestone.
Steep slope with perfect natural drainage. Situated in the middle of the slope facing due east.
The grapes were handpicked into small crates, then sorted and totally destemmed. The wine stayed on the skins for 15 days in temperature-controlled open oak vats. Pigeage (punching down the cap) was done twice a day during alcoholic fermentation.
100% malolactic fermentation
100% ageing in oak barrels
Duration of ageing: 20 months.
